Around the World - Miami, FL - Piktorama

Once in a while I like to indulge my eyes to colorful, bright pictures. It stirs the creativity so and Piktorama is just the perfect shop for it! Adorable cupcakes with smiley faces, mushrooms with a bright and colorful top among other fun imageries, is just such a delight to look at. The artwork style reminds me of Mika's music video for Lollipop. (fun song btw!) The most amazing thing about her artworks? Some actually only have 4 colors or less. Her screenprinted pieces like the teapot above is one of those, and it's just simple amazing how much you can do with just 4 colors!

Around the World - Miami, FL - Kiss a Bug

I love discovering new shops, and this is definitely one of my favorite finds in a while. Kiss a bug (or kissabug) is a quirky little shop that sells paper dolls with articulated joints. The fun characters are from her Circus Folk series, from Valentina the acrobat to Arthur the ringmaster, and not forgetting Fred the strong man and Rooster, the lad from the flying trapeze as well. I must admit that I am a sucker for this type of simple art style. (and the intriguing subject!) The way the characters are posed suits them so well too, and really screams of their unique personalities and looks. Such a fabulous find, this one!

Around the World - Miami, FL - What. No Mints?

What. No Mints? is a fun little shop that sells all sort of stuff made from felt. Ranging from brooches, ornaments, plushies to hoop arts. My favorite part of the shop? The geeky/nerdy stuff! Like the 'Nerds have more fun' hoop, the microbial biology brooches and the chemistry/sciency ornaments. Just so much fun! I bet you will be able to find fun gifts for that geeky or nerdy friend in this quirky little shop. Aside from the geeky things, she makes animal plus toys too and I really like this little manta ray here. It's really a subject that rarely appears in the crafty circle.

Patches, the Semi Paralyzed Kitty

THIS, was the reason why my blog updates are so scarce lately. Introducing Patches, the semi paralyzed kitty! She has pretty golden eyes with just a hint of green. :)

Last Sunday midnight (June 25th) I saw a SOS post from an animal rescue group on Facebook. The cat was just about 10 minutes drive from my place, and I know I would feel terrible if I didn't help. And that was how I ended up with Patches. She was suspected to be hit by a car or motorcycle (I suspect the latter) and was not able to move with her hind legs. She was just dragging herself around with her two very strong front legs.

An X-ray of Patch's spine. Her L1 and L2 vertebrae had been crushed together, and the vet said that this was actually an old injury too, at least two weeks and above. Which means she had been dragging herself around like that for at least 2 weeks! Unfortunately that also means it is too late for surgery. Sure, she can perform one, but the bone had started to heal itself so surgery is super risky! The best chances for success for the surgery is actually within the first 8 hours after the injury. So we opted for the conservative way and try alternative treatments.

Patches doesn't really have no feelings in her hind legs. In fact, she still have some reflexes in it, so I am hopeful that she will recover in time.

Patches is currently put on Neurobion, and I have enlisted the help of a super nice animal physiotherapist - Lydia, to help. Unfortunately, Lydia says Patches is a little too early for physical therapy right now, the ideal time is 8 weeks after the injury when the bone had completely healed (over each other) and is more steady. So Lydia just taught me how to massage Patch's muscles to help with the atrophy, and also how to help express Patch's bladder properly.

I had also been looking into alternative treatments, like acupuncture. But I'll touch on that at a later date. :) To be continued!

Around the World - Miami, FL - Carolina Benoit

Something a little less rough and a bit more feminine from Miami this time? Dainty, pretty, romantic and light, Carolina Benoit's clothes and dresses would be perfect for the hot summer season isn't it? The geometric shapes, pops of colors and the romantic blue hue in the photographs is what sets the shop away from others. I am absolutely in love with that French lace blouse with red silk trims, gorgoues! Aside from clothing, she also makes jewelry pieces too and you can check them out at her shop.
